Are You A “Country Junkie?”

We love country music. I’m guessing you do too. This past summer we were talking to some friends about attending the Kenny Chesney concert at Gillette Stadium. We were talking about any possible changes being made because hurricane Irene was heading our way with it’s path of destruction. Would the concert be cancelled or would we be sitting in the middle of a hurricane listening to the Zac Brown Band, Billy Currington and of course Kenny Chesney? As we all laughed at the thought of being soaked for 3 hours someone sitting behind us had been listening to our conversation. Without blinking an eye he chimed in…”I’m going no matter what because I’m a country junkie.”  After a moment of silence and a few sips of beer we all agreed…we are all country junkies!

We can all name obscure country bands and songs and depending on how many cold one’s we’ve had we can usually recite Johnny Cash’s play list from Folson Prison. We all have iPods filled with country songs and depending on how we feel we can dial up a song to match our mood. From kick ass country with Jason Aldean to reflective songs by George Strait, Vince Gill and the Judds we have’em all. We can go to the islands with Kenny Chesney,Zac Brown and Billy Currington or “Marry for Money” with Trace Adkins. From outstanding award winning singers like Carrie Underwood, Miranda Lambert and Martina McBride to the great “tongue in cheek” songs by Brad Paisley listening to country music can be funny, fun, romantic and heartbreaking all at the same time! And the more you listen to the “new” country the more respect you  have for country music’s history and and all the great artists that help make it what it is today.

Many current country stars tip their hat with mentions of the great country singers before them. Listen carefully and you will hear them mention some of the greats like Dolly Parton, George Jones,Waylon Jennings, Merle Haggard, Tammy Wynette and the fabulous Loretta Lynn.

So yes…we love country music. The hats, the boots, the music, the tailgating and the dreams of long country roads, the sound of a John Deere tractor and smell of clean country air! We are…country junkies!

Do you like to take a back road if you ever get the chance,

Do you get Country Fest tickets and pay the 8 months in advance?

Do you want to spend your days on tractors,

Or at rodeo’s ropin steer,

Does your truck have muddy tires,

And a cooler filled with beer?

Is your iPod filled with country tunes,

And songs about Cowboys,

And do you pop some tops at concerts,

To get loud and make some noise?

Do you spend your days with horses,

Or just wishin’ that was true,

Well, if you said YES to any of these questions,

Your a COUNTRY JUNKIE Too!
